Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet) marks 13 years of powering Botswana’s digital transformation, growing its fibre network from 6,000km to over 14,000km. Established in 2013 as custodian of the national broadband backbone, it remains financially sustainable without government subvention.
BoFiNet has connected 227 gazetted towns and villages toward a target of 500, reaching Gudigwa, Two Rivers and Parakarungu. In 2025/26, projects in Moshupa, Ramotswa/Taung and Thamaga connected 191 customers and created 210 construction jobs.
Beyond infrastructure, it has invested in digital skills, schools and greater participation by girls and women in ICT. Its Tier III Digital Delta Data Centre anchors hosting and cloud services, while its SATA chairmanship and February 2026 MoU with MTC Namibia deepen regional cooperation.
“Thirteen years represents more than the growth of our network; it reflects Botswana’s progress towards a digitally connected economy,” said CEO Dr. Gaone Geoffrey Seleka. “We are proving state-owned enterprises can be commercially viable and deeply committed to social impact.” Looking ahead, Horizon 2029, “Redefining How We Deliver”, targets 95% customer satisfaction, 25% revenue growth and 25% efficiency savings. International capacity is now 1Tbps. “Our next chapter is about translating infrastructure into impact,” Seleka added.
