After 22 years of involvement with Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL), Heinie Werth has bid farewell to the institution, describing Botswana and BIHL as deeply important to Sanlam’s African operations. Speaking at a farewell dinner hosted by BIHL and SanlamAllianz, Werth said BIHL remained among Sanlam’s top five profit contributors across its African portfolio and was a significant player in Botswana.

Werth said his time with BIHL had exposed him to difficult periods but also exceptional people, strong governance and a culture built around long-term decisions rather than short-term profits. He thanked the board, management, employees, shareholders, regulators and business partners for their support.

As he prepares to retire, Werth introduced successor Hennie Nel, expressing confidence in his leadership and understanding of Sanlam’s African operations. He urged BIHL to protect its legacy of trust, stability and security while continuing to contribute to Botswana’s economy and society.
