Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) has won the 2026 World Savings and Retail Banking Institute and European Savings and Retail Banking Group (WSBI-ESBG) Sustainable Development Goals Award for Excellence in Digital Transformation and Technological Innovation.

The award was presented in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 16, 2026, recognizing the bank’s use of technology to modernize financial services, expand financial inclusion and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Established in 1963, BSB has expanded its branch network from four to 11 branches, increased its ATM footprint and established 97 banking agents. It has also introduced mobile and internet banking, digital wallets, electronic customer onboarding and instant card issuance.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Dr Wabo Kagiso Moswate said the recognition demonstrated that Botswana’s homegrown institutions could innovate and earn international recognition. He described the achievement as a moment of national pride, crediting the bank’s employees, Board, Government and customers for their contributions.

Moswate said the award comes as BSB implements its Pinagare 2029 corporate strategy. The bank is also expected to feature in the forthcoming WSBI-ESBG Sustainable Development Goals Report, which will highlight its achievements within the international banking community.
